Transportation Reform Becomes Law!
After
eight long months of
work, four of our five priorities were included
in the final version of DOT Reform bill, S.355, which was
approved on
June 21, and signed into law by Governor Mark Sanford on Wednesday,
June 27, 2007.
This
was a
tremendous team effort with citizens participating all across the
state. The final result could not have been achieved without the
constant, unwavering support of individuals and through organizations
who pushed
S.355—the great DOT Reform bill—through the General
Assembly this year.
Governor Mark Sanford stated, "the people of
South Carolina deserve a DOT
that spends their tax dollars wisely and makes good decisions with
regard to our state's infrastructure, and we believe this bill will
move the ball forward on that front."
We owe a great deal of thanks to the great leaders in the Senate and
House who worked tirelessly on DOT Reform since November of
2006.
These legislators never gave up and pushed forward overcoming seemingly
impossible hurdles.
Thank you Senators Glenn McConnell, Hugh Leatherman (R-Florence), Larry
Grooms (R-Berkeley), Tommy Moore (D-Aiken), and Greg Ryberg (R-Aiken)
for their hard work on the floor of the Senate, in committee, and
behind the scenes to ensure a DOT Reform was approved by the
Senate.
Thank you Representatives Speaker Bobby Harrell (R-Charleston) and
Representatives Annette Young (R-Berkeley), Jimmy Merrill (R-Berkeley),
Mike Anthony (D-Union) and Harry Ott (D-Calhoun).
The DOT Reform legislation was the very last
bill approved last Thursday, and may not have made it across the goal
line had it not been for the hard work of the legislators listed
above.
